Dear Raj,
I have been a travel correspondent/reporter for nearly 20 years (see my 2010 NY Times cover story on Sri Lanka and my colleague, COL Liam Collins has been in the US Army for longer than that. In our decades of overseas experience neither of us has had a driver more professional, more courteous, and just more helpful than Mr. Chanuka Manuranga Thennakoon. Arriving to Colombo without much guidance on which tour company we would use, Chanuka was reassuring, knowledgeable of local terrain and travel times, and always a paragon of professionalism. I never worried for a second with him at the wheel. Moreover, I especially appreciated that he did not force us into kitschy/over-priced souvenir shops as so many tour guides across the world do. I sincerely hope to make sure that every Western journalist, NGO worker, and government employee I know who is coming to Colombo or Sri Lanka for a tour will reach out to you and to Mr. Chanuka and enlist your services. It really made our tour of Sri Lanka such a pleasant and rewarding experience!
